Zaubers Released After No Further Evidence Found

[London] Frank and Emma Zauber were released from custody earlier today, after the police failed to turn up any new evidence of their involvement in the missing persons case of Warren Harnish. “They cooperated with us fully,” said Weston, “and initial investigations have not turned up anything to indicate that either of them was involved in any criminal activity with respect to this case. Their links with the scene may be entirely innocent – in fact, we are currently investigating the possibility that a third party committed the crime and intended have the Zaubers blamed.”

Frank Zauber Arrested in Connection with Missing Man

[Ottawa] The notorious Frank Zauber was arrested this week after voluntarily submitting himself to questioning at the Kanata police station, 600 kilometers away from the crime he was supposed to have committed just half an hour before.

Earlier that day, police in London, Ontario had received a call from a man who claimed that Zauber was trying to kill him. He insisted on immediate assistance as, he said, “He’s on his way. I know he’s coming for me. He’ll be here soon and I don’t know what I can do.” Both the phone from which the call was made, and the house to which the police were dispatched, have now been identified as belonging to one Warren Harnish.

When six officers arrived at the scene just minutes later, Harnish was gone. Said Officer Weston of the London police force at a press conference this morning: “We found a young woman at the scene, who had minor injuries and a magically wiped memory of the past few days. She is currently in custody but she is not currently a suspect, and we expect to release her soon. Rather, we are focussing on questioning Frank and Emma Zauber, who are both connected to the scene in multiple ways. However, we do not believe anyone was killed at this location and as long as the Zaubers continue to cooperate with us, we have great hope that this mystery can get resolved quickly and Harnish can be found.”

So why was Zauber arrested, if he was in Kanata (a seven hour drive from London) just minutes later? “We have evidence that magical forms of transport were involved,” said Weston. “It really renders all distance considerations moot.”

Man Found Dead in Apartment

[Ottawa] Police surrounded an apartment complex in northern Ottawa last night after gunshots were reportedly heard by neighbours.

“I was just doing the dishes,” said Cathy Yeoman, who lived just next door. “I wasn’t sure where the shots came from, but I called the police immediately. Then I just stayed inside until they arrived.”

When police arrived on the scene, they found a window smashed and the body of a man who was later identified to be George Cambridge, an accountant with no known family.

“He was a very quiet man,” Yeoman told reporters. “He was often travelling abroad, but even when he was home you would never hear a peep from him. The few times I saw him, he was polite enough. Very withdrawn, though. I don’t know why anyone would want to hurt him.”

No suspects have been apprehended in the case, and the police have issued no statements as of yet.

The Search Continues for Reverend Ross

[Ottawa Area] The beloved Reverend Ross continues to elude searchers after being discovered missing more than two weeks ago.

The Reverend made news earlier this month after protesting the opening of the Mojo Market, a protest that later turned into a riot and had the Reverend leave the mall shouting. He was briefly arrested for starting the riot, and was in custody for several days before being released.

The Reverend Donovan Ross has been missing since sometime before February 7th, when he went in to film his popular television show, Illuminations. It was at this time that it was discovered that he was not actually himself, but an impostor, a magically-enhanced replacement whose name has not yet been released. No information has yet been discovered as to how long he has been missing, why he is missing, or where he may be.

His congregation and a few other concerned citizens have set up search parties and are combing the area around Ottawa and its neighbouring communities. Nothing has yet been found, but as one of his closest friends, Laurence Holt, says, “We are considering this as good news. If we have been unable to find anything, then it means he is probably still alive somewhere. Please, if anyone has any information, we are offering a substantial reward. Please visit www.findreverendross.com and you can stay completely confidential if that is what you wish. We just want to find him.”

Mojo Market Mayhem

[Ottawa Area] This Saturday was the grand opening of the Mojo Market. Many had high hopes for the mall, which was to concentrate on supernatural goods and services, but would welcome any who arrived at its doors. “The Mojo Market, I hope, will be the catalyst for the meeting of two worlds,” said Lianda Simmons, proprietor of the Night Stallion bar and grill. “When it opens its doors, the public will finally have a chance to glimpse all the benefits of magic, and meet some of the denizens of the supernatural community, in a safe and open environment.”

Some might consider it a sign, then, that what was supposed to be the emergence of a new era, was so fraught with tension. If not even an hour can pass without trouble, what hopes do we have that the mall will last a year? From even before the doors were opened, protesters shouted and waved signs that said “No Magic No Monsters” and “What is the Price of YOUR SOUL?”

“We are here as a reminder to good people,” said the famous Donovan Ross, of the well-known Illuminations – Worship with the Church of Imminent Redemption. “This cesspool is nothing but a gathering of pagan and satanic powers, and I want to help prevent it from succeeding in its primary goal, which is clearly to tempt the good people of Ontario. I have confidence that, shown the way, they will reject this dark influence and instead make their way into the light. I will welcome them there.”

Inside the walls of the market, one sees that gathering of power. It’s hard not to be sucked in and like what you see. The mall’s owners are particularly charming, and when prompted only slightly, will describe the mall’s many delights in great detail. The “cosmetic sorcery”, for example (“licensed and fully regulated”), lets you have any temporary magical enhancement you’d care to describe – wings, for example, which let you fly to the upper levels of the mall and partake of the view. The arcade, which uses unparalled 3D technology, puts in the world of the game unlike any other system that exists today. The Adept school teaches mages, as its proprietor said, “to understand the depth of their powers”.

Of the current legal concern between the mall’s owners and the one who protested outside, not a lot was said. Both parties espoused “confidence in the legal system” and, on one side, “an amicable resolution”. But one could not help but notice that the free smoothies sent to the protestors were left untouched, and a brief meeting between the two parties ended in shouting and a shocking display of temper from the usually well-mannered Reverend.

Where next? I suppose that’s up to the community to decide.

Grand Opening This Saturday

[Nepean] The much-anticipated Mojo Market will finally debut this Saturday. It has managed to pull together a stellar collection of stores, including a second outlet of Thyme’s Square Boutiques, the first Canadian location of Grim’s Books, the newly minted Freshwater Academy, Nature’s Blessings, a fresh juice bar, and access to the famous Oracle. It has also been rumoured that there will be a previously unannouced surprise, a speculation that came about after co-owner Fred Zauber was seen carrying some interesting items into the market.

Although the market has seen much protest to its opening, we in the supernatural community are excited for this weekend. If people can just be willing to ignore the haters and step inside this warm and sure-to-be-amazing atmosphere, this is sure to be a huge step toward acceptance of each other. Come to 3500 Fallowfield Road, Nepean, just outside of Ottawa – and welcome!

Justice Has a Name, and It's Frank

[Ottawa] The supernatural community in Ottawa and surrounding area has been getting a taste, this week, of what it means to follow the law. Braving an area of town that most lawmen fear, Officer Frank Zauber pulled off a string of arrests against supernatural law-breakers. These criminals have previously enjoyed an undeserved respite, due to the difficulty posed in facing not only their own abilities, but those of others like them who would harbour such criminals.

Frank Zauber, who was unharmed in the arrests, said only, “It’s time people respected the authority of a badge. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what powers you have: the law applies to you, and we aren’t afraid to protect the community by taking you in.”

Zaubers Charged

[Ottawa] The well-known Mr. and Mrs. Freddy and Emma Zauber have been charged with harassment and uttering threats by supernatual means by the also well-known Reverend Donovan Ross. Very little is known at this point, but see pages B3-4 for a feature on the Reverend and his Church of the Imminent Redemption, and pages C8-12 for a feature on the Zaubers.

Order of St. Michael's Sued

[Ottawa] The infamous Kurt Greeve causes headlines once more as last Tuesday he launched his own lawsuit against the Order for which he has purportedly been working for the past year. It was at the end of a horrific string of murders last year in which the Order helped him to get back onto his feet and gave him a job. Now he is claiming, says his lawyer, that “the Order brought together every resource they had and basically turned him into an indentured servant, an illegal state of affairs which I have taken it upon myself to correct.”

Not a lot of information has been made public at this point, but the preparation is well underway and the case is slated to begin in earnest next month.

Young Woman Speaks Up for Supernaturals

[Ottawa] A little ray of hope for the supernatural community today, as a young woman is gaining supporters across the world for Supernatural rights and her ideas about a place where they can shop without prejudice. It all started when she spontaneously caused a stir on the streets while talking to a few other supernaturals. Everywhere she went, people were watching and listening. “I think that the Witch Hammer and that new church are really getting to people,” said Denise Chandler, who works as a nurse at the hospital. She went on to plead that the young woman should make a scheduled speech to the general public – they certainly seemed receptive of it!

But the story doesn’t end there. Someone took a video of it and posted it on YouTube, and it already has 3,000 views. Of course there are always the detractors…. “chck this grl out she’s suporting the freaks but evryones eating it whole!!” says tridick99, but ABetterWorld4You is the top commenter with this statement: “That is such a brilliant idea, a mall just for supernaturals. As it is, there is this whole market segment which store owners are afraid to cater to. Even the most famous magical bookstore in the US has given itself a name that intentionally hides its purpose from those who aren’t specifically looking for it. (I won’t say which one, but if you’ve ever bought a ritual book you know who I mean!) Once again the Canadians are ahead of us, ahead of the times… I wish you all the best of luck in setting up your mall!”
